गङ्गातरङ्गरमणीयजटाकलापं
गौरीनिरन्तरविभूषितवामभागम् ।
नारायणप्रियमनङ्गमदापहारं
वाराणसीपुरपतिं भज विश्वनाथम् ॥
अर्थ — जिनके सिर की जटाओं में गंगा की तरंगे मनोहर लगती हैं, जिनका वाम भाग गौरी (पार्वती) द्वारा सुंदरता से अलंकृत है, जो नारायण के प्रिय हैं, जिन्होंने कामदेव के अङ्ग (शरीर) सौंदर्य के मद को नष्ट किया है, और जो वाराणसीपति हैं (काशी के भगवान), ऐसे महादेव भगवान को भजो।
Meaning – Worship the Lord Vishwanath (Shiva), whose jata (matted hair) is adorned with the charming waves of the Ganga, whose left side is adorned with the beauty of Goddess Gauri (Parvati), who is dear to Narayana (Vishnu), and whose form has destroyed the pride of Kamadeva (the god of desire). He is the Lord of Varanasi (Kashi), the city of spiritual enlightenment.
